Here is your chance to pick up a Steinhauer & Lück producedType B Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. Type B examples first began production in 1945 and as we know S&L produced awards using the original dies for souvenir hungry GI’s and occupation forces after the war. This particular cross features the ‘dent row” die flaw on both the front and rear frames, a non-magnetic core and does not bear a typical silver content marking under the suspension ring. It is likely believed and has been suggested that these are not awarded examples are were mostly produced at the end of the war or shortly after. This particular cross is complete with an original section of ribbon and is 800 marked on the suspension loop. Because of the debate behind the origin and production date of this cross, which is absolutely an original S&L product, I cannot accurately guarantee it was produced before the war’s end. Because nobody knows if this was made in April of 1945 or June of 1945 (and that makes all the difference as the war ended for Germany in May) this is offered at a fraction of the price of a guaranteed wartime product. The Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross was the highest award in the military and paramilitary forces of Nazi Germany during World War II. The Knight’s Cross was awarded for a wide range of reasons and across all ranks, from a senior commander for skilled leadership of his troops in battle to a low-ranking soldier for a single act of military valour. The award was instituted on 1 September 1939, at the onset of the German invasion of Poland. Just over 7,000 were awarded during the course of the war.
