Order of the German Eagle Merit medal. Maker marked “30” suspension ring which indicates this came from the official State Mint in Vienna, Austria. Medal has a beautiful bronze finish. The Order of Merit of the German Eagle was an award given predominantly to foreign diplomats. The Order was instituted on 1 May 1937 by Adolf Hitler. Foreign diplomats, as well as those working in the diplomatic system were eligible for this award. There were a total of 9 different grades of this award issued during the Third Reich.
