Here is your chance to pick up a NSDAP flag with fascinating provenance. Obtained with the flag was a note about it’s history. The note mentions that the flag was obtained at auction in 1986 with the background that this flag was captured off a German sailor adrift in the ocean. The flag was stuffed in his jacket and was found once he was captured. He most likely was carrying the flag to show he was a German in the event any aircraft were searching for survivors in the water. As we always say, if this one could talk.. Complete with the internal rope and a metal clip for hanging. Minor wrinkling from storage but it should smooth out easily. Measures roughly 55-3/8″ long and about 29-1/2″ tall. Wear throughout as seen in the photos. Overall an impressive flag with a most interesting back story. The National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, abbreviated NSDAP), was a far-right political party in Germany that was active between 1920 and 1945, that created and supported the ideology of National Socialism. The Nazi Party emerged from the German nationalist, racist and populist Freikorps paramilitary culture, which fought against the communist uprisings in post-World War I Germany. Initially, Nazi political strategy focused on anti-big business, anti-bourgeois, and anti-capitalist rhetoric, although this was later downplayed to gain the support of business leaders, and in the 1930s the party’s main focus shifted to anti-Semitic and anti-Marxist themes. Adolf Hitler, the party’s leader since 1921, was appointed Chancellor of Germany by President Paul von Hindenburg on 30 January 1933. Hitler rapidly established a totalitarian regime known as the Third Reich. After the death of President Hindenburg on 2 August 1934, Hitler merged the offices of party leader, head of state and chief of government in one, taking the title of Führer und Reichskanzler.
