Order of the German Eagle Merit medal. Maker marked for the official State Mint in Vienna, Austria on the lower edge of the medal, as well as being marked “835” for silver content. Nice patina to the silver finish and complete with swords. The Order of Merit of the German Eagle was an award given predominantly to foreign diplomats. The Order was instituted on 1 May 1937 by Adolf Hitler. Foreign diplomats, as well as those working in the diplomatic system were eligible for this award.
