Here’s your chance to pick up a very nice and stunning cased pair of the Order of the German Eagle w/ Swords. A first and second class version. 1st Class neck order is complete with ribbon, which is complete with ribbon ties. The suspension ring loop is “900” silver content marked as well as “21” stamped for Godet. 2nd Class breast star is in perfect condition with nice patina throughout. 900 silver marked on the reverse pin as well as “21” for Godet as well. Complete with a period case, which exhibits light signs of wear to the exterior. Unfortunately, the clasps on the box exterior have been lost to time and I really don’t have an explanation for this as it’s something I’ve never seen before. I doubt anyone is really going to want to display the set with the lid closed and I would rate the awards at near mint and they truly are spectacular.

The Order of Merit of the German Eagle was an award given predominantly to foreign diplomats. The Order was instituted on 1 May 1937 by Adolf Hitler. Foreign diplomats, as well as those working in the diplomatic system were eligible for this award. There were a total of 9 different grades of this award issued during the Third Reich.
