Description
A desirable vet bringback captured by Joseph L. Papish (a half-track driver within the 737th Armor) in the Mortain, Normandy area in France. Full details will be provided to the buyer. The helmet is named and is most likely tied to the infamous 2nd SS Panzer Division “Das Reich” from initial research. The one everybody wants and here it is folks! Large size Q66 marked shell and with a late lot number (21504) suggesting this is one of the last M35 double decals to be produced. The chinstrap is 1940 dated and is to be considered a period replacement. If you were looking for a fantastic double decal SS helmet then look no more! The original wearer carved his name behind SS runes on the interior liner which is a nice touch. Beautiful display piece and a true combat Vet. Both decals would rate excellent overall and while they show their legitimate age are still nice and crisp. As you can see in the photos, there is a slight ding to the helmet shell above the party decal and this one has character for sure. Untouched split pins and right as rain. This one is priced right so do yourself a favor and grab it while you can!Click HERE to view more images of this item! The Schutzstaffel (SS) was a major paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany, and later throughout German-occupied Europe during World War II. It began with a small guard unit known as the Saal-Schutz (“Hall Security”) made up of NSDAP volunteers to provide security for party meetings in Munich. In 1925, Heinrich Himmler joined the unit, which had by then been reformed and given its final name. Under his direction (1929–45) it grew from a small paramilitary formation during the Weimar Republic to one of the most powerful organizations in Nazi Germany. From 1929 until the regime’s collapse in 1945, the SS was the foremost agency of security, surveillance, and terror within Germany and German-occupied Europe. The two main constituent groups were the Allgemeine SS (General SS) and Waffen-SS (Armed SS). The Allgemeine SS was responsible for enforcing the racial policy of Nazi Germany and general policing, whereas the Waffen-SS consisted of combat units within Nazi Germany’s military. A third component of the SS, the SS-Totenkopfverbände (SS-TV), ran the concentration camps and extermination camps. Additional subdivisions of the SS included the Gestapo and the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) organizations. They were tasked with the detection of actual or potential enemies of the Nazi state, the neutralization of any opposition, policing the German people for their commitment to Nazi ideology, and providing domestic and foreign intelligence.
