Description

Here is your chance to pick up an outstanding example of a SS dagger. Numbered 1315 which is a very low number, this number is researched to Karl Ostberg, who was a soldier that served in the same company as Adolf Hitler in the first World War. Ostberg joined the NSDAP on March 1st 1920, and was a recipient of the Coburg Badge, Blood Order, the Gold Party (number 10,166) badge, and the 1929 Reichsparteitag tinnie. He took place in the failed Putsch in 1923. On April 20th 1934 he was promoted to the rank of Standartenführer and Colonel equivalent. He passed away in 1935 where Adolf Hitler personally attended his funeral and later had the 1st Sturm in the 1st SS Standarte in Munich named in his honor “SS Sturm 1 Karl Ostberg”. Again, not only did Ostberg serve in the same company as Adolf Hitler, but the Führer himself personally attended his funeral services and renamed an SS unit after Ostberg. All of this printed research is included to the buyer. Ostberg’s Coburg badge, his Gold Party Badge, and his Blood Order are in additional collections out there – what a dream it would be to reunite the set. This piece is covered in patina giving this one a nice worn look. The originally blued scabbard is a period repaint and includes it’s hanger and original D-ring belt loop. The blade is in good condition with some minor signs of wear and spotting and retains some of it’s original cross grain. Roman Numeral “I” stamped lower crossguard for the Munich region. Maker marked on the reverse for the producer C. Bertram Reinhard. It does not get much better than a named SS dagger to an SS Colonel that not only served with Adolf Hitler in the same company during WW1 but followed him into the failed 1923 Putch and with an SS number just over the first thousand. A gorgeous example overall with great history, and surely investment grade. Click HERE to view more images of this item! The Schutzstaffel (SS) was a major paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler  in Nazi Germany, and later throughout German-occupied Europe during World War II. It began with a small guard unit known as the Saal-Schutz (“Hall Security”) made up of NSDAP volunteers to provide security for party meetings in Munich. In 1925, Heinrich Himmler joined the unit, which had by then been reformed and given its final name. Under his direction (1929–45) it grew from a small paramilitary formation during the Weimar Republic to one of the most powerful organizations in Nazi Germany. From 1929 until the regime’s collapse in 1945, the SS was the foremost agency of security, surveillance, and terror within Germany and German-occupied Europe. The two main constituent groups were the Allgemeine SS (General SS) and Waffen-SS (Armed SS). The Allgemeine SS was responsible for enforcing the racial policy of Nazi Germany and general policing, whereas the Waffen-SS consisted of combat units within Nazi Germany’s military. A third component of the SS, the SS-Totenkopfverbände (SS-TV), ran the concentration camps and extermination camps. Additional subdivisions of the SS included the Gestapo and the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) organizations. They were tasked with the detection of actual or potential enemies of the Nazi state, the neutralization of any opposition, policing the German people for their commitment to Nazi ideology, and providing domestic and foreign intelligence.       Free shipping ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD & I don’t charge PayPal fees like some of the other guys!
